2024 · Sintra · Single-family residence · Photography by F. Guerra
A small studio working between Lisbon and the Atlantic coast, designing residences, retreats and quiet public spaces with a respect for material, climate and the slow weight of time.
A coastal residence in Comporta, completing winter 2026.
Each project begins on the ground — walking the site, listening to the wind, learning the stone. From those notes we draw plans that try to disappear into the landscape rather than impose upon it.
Lime plaster, raw oak, riven slate. Surfaces that age into themselves.
Cross-ventilation, deep reveals, courtyards. Comfort without machinery.
We work with a small circle of Portuguese makers and masons, by hand.
Joinery, ironmongery, shadow gaps — drawn at 1:1 until they vanish.

Site visits, conversations, archival drawings. We do not draw before we understand.
Hand sketches and physical models. We test light, mass and proportion in cardboard before pixels.
Detailed packages issued to a trusted circle of builders. Mock-ups for every surface.
We return after a year. Buildings should improve with weather and use.
A four-bedroom residence carved into a granite hillside above the Atlantic. Lime walls, oak shutters, a single chimney that draws the western sun across the kitchen at five each evening.
"They listened more than they spoke. The house we now live in feels older than the land it sits on — in the best possible way."
"A studio of rare patience. Drawings arrived hand-bound; details were resolved in person, on the floor, with chalk."
"Verão understood that a restaurant is first a room. The light at lunch, the hush at dinner — it was all drawn."
Ideally before the land has been bought. We are happy to walk a site with you and offer an honest read of its potential, with no commitment.
Selectively. We have completed work in southern Spain, the Aeolian islands and Tangier. We accept roughly two international commissions per year.
Residential commissions begin around €1.2M of construction value. Smaller interventions — apartments, restaurants, exhibitions — are considered case by case.
Yes. Most of our houses include bespoke joinery, hardware and light fittings made by a small group of Portuguese craftsmen we have worked with for over a decade.
From first walk to handover, typically twenty-four to thirty months. We do not rush, and we do not compress.
We open a small number of new commissions each year. A short note about the site, the brief, and your timeline is all we need to begin a conversation.
